Brooklyn plumbing experts offer tips to lower residential water bills as costs continue to rise

the New York one Petri Plumbing, Heating, Cooling & Drain Cleaning says it’s possible to save money on utility bills while conserving water by implementing a few simple tips

BROOKLYN, NY, August 22, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — With the rising cost of utility bills in New Yorkplumbing experts from Petri Plumbing, heating, air conditioning and unclogginga family home service business brooklyn and manhattan for more than a century, claim that homeowners can save money and conserve water by changing their water use habits and considering minor plumbing upgrades.

“Improved infrastructure and the cost of supplies, in general, are driving up water prices, as are many other daily necessities,” he said. Michel Petri, owner of Petri Plumbing, Heating, Cooling & Drain Cleaning. “But there are simple ways to reduce your consumption, which will help lower your water bill and protect a valuable resource we all rely on every day.”

Petri said homeowners can do the following to lower their utility bills:

  1. Don’t let the water run while shaving or brushing your teeth. Turning off the water while performing these tasks can save up to four gallons of water per day per person. Depending on the number of people in the household, this can add up to hundreds of gallons saved each month.
  2. Take shorter showers. A cool shower can be nice on a hot summer day, but cutting showers down to just four minutes can save a homeowner up to 4,000 gallons a year.
  3. Install a low-flow showerhead and low-flow toilet. A low-flow showerhead can help reduce water use by up to 50%, while a low-flow toilet can reduce water use by up to 13,000 gallons of water per year.
  4. Wait until the laundry basket and the dishwasher are full. Do not run the washing machine or dishwasher until they are full. This will reduce the number of times homeowners have to run these appliances, saving water each month.
  5. Do not wash dishes by hand before putting them in the dishwasher. Most newer dishwashers can handle some food debris. If a dish has food particles stuck on, run water in the sink with the drain closed and let the dish soak instead of washing it under running water all the time.
  6. Water outdoor plants at dawn or dusk. In the afternoon, the water on the ground can evaporate so quickly that the plant does not have time to soak it up. By watering in the morning or evening, the plants have more time to absorb the water.

“We can all do our part to reduce our water usage, which is great for the planet,” Petri said. “And, if you follow a few simple steps to reduce your water consumption, you can also save money, which is great for your wallet.”
