EC sees Italy’s GDP grow by 6.2% this year – English

(ANSA) – ROME, NOV 11 – The European Commission said in its autumn economic forecast on Thursday that it expects Italy’s GDP to grow by 6.2% this year, from 4.3 % in 2022 and 2.3% in 2023.

The Italian economy fell 8.9% in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“After the rebound in the first half of 2021, real GDP is expected to continue growing, although it will encounter headwinds in the short term,” the Commission said.

“Domestic demand, especially the dynamism of investment spending, should support growth.

“The government deficit and debt are expected to decline as a percentage of GDP thanks to the economic recovery.”

In the summer, the EC had forecast growth of 5% this year and 4.2% in 2022 for Italy.

He said the Italian economy is expected to return to pre-crisis production levels by the middle of next year.

“The outlook remains subject to downside risks from the pandemic, including the potential entrenchment of declining labor market participation,” he said. (ANSA).
